Pumpkin Succulent Workshop

]Autumn brings with it the opportunity for so many wonderful activities and memories to make with family and friends. So, when my son gave me the idea of crafting pumpkin succulents, it definitely gave me something to think about.

Now for those that know me, I’m usually not a workshop type of gal and actually hosting an event like this here at the farm was way out of my comfort zone. However, I kept going back to the idea, thought it sounded fun and might be something others would enjoy too. Not only was it the perfect time of year, but it was also different than other types of workshop activities I had gone to in the past.

When I first announced the pumpkin succulent workshop, honestly, I wasn’t expecting a huge response, but by golly was I wrong. Not only was it a great success, but so much fun getting to know the ladies that attended in a fun group laid back setting.  In fact, it was so well-liked, that we announced a second workshop and I joyfully received even more interest and enthusiasm from you all.

• Now that’s not to say that these events didn’t come with a few glitches along the way. The first one, believe it or not, was that I had the hardest time finding a large supply of the Cinderella heirloom pumpkins. Yes, that’s correct, there was a shortage of pumpkins during pumpkin season! When I did find the right vendor, I bought up just about all they had and hoarded them in my garage until the workshop events. Then there were the succulents. Thank you to my friends at the Southern Oregon Garden Association that allowed me to hand dig the plants needed for the events. Boy, was that a life saver!

Reflecting back on the events, I am proud of myself for having the courage to step outside my comfort zone, take on something new and seeing it through. Not only that, it was a success that I could be proud of and a great life lesson for my eight-year-old son. I also have a renewed love for gardening and look forward to what else that will invoke.

I want to sincerely thank each and every one of you that attended the workshop events. It was a pleasure getting to know you all better. And for those that have asked about additional workshop dates, we intend on offering them again next year!
